EDIT: This has been up here for ages with a bit of a serious bug. It doesn't work after a while. Its kinda hard to fix cos it could be a lot of different things. Sorry don't seem to be able to fix (after about 3 mins. or so all the Sheps do a lemming of the top left corner.... no idea why)

Sheps live for 11 seconds
1 extra second and one extra offspring per grass clump consumed during it's lifespan.
Every offspring is a slight variation of its parent.
Successful variants propagate their genes more effectively.

SHEPS EVOLVE :)

I wouldn't advise changing mutation rate. Don't make too much grass or trust me you will regret it :S (LAGGG)
Yes, i know grass rate is wrong... it should say "Grass Spawn Max. delay in milliseconds"

Haha yes i did :P I once tried to rewrite this thing but the code is so bad :/ Its a huge program and to add anything to it you have to read and understand all the clumsy code. so short of rewriting it any change to the code just makes it unstable :P

That's a good idea... I had a similar idea but I couldn't work out how I would do it :(
The other problem is that this was designed to make them evolve very fast and produce hundreds of offspring... it would be sort of hard to pick out the ones you like yourself.
I just had an idea though as I was typing this.... i could make them a movie clip with several 'morph' sequences and move them by a frame every generation....

No no that's not interesting. It will mean that no actual evolution happens it just that they chang according to your predefined line. Know how it should be done? You should define few things. Like movement algorithm, drawing algorithm, thinking algorithm. And make a lot of parameters for them. For example movement can be defined as following some interpolated line which follows some points and is defined by Bezier splines in between of those points. So parameters of algorithm would be:
1) how many points per pixel in movement line is
2) Parameters for Bezier interpolation
3) angle a which ship looks when wals the line
etc...

So then ship stores all those parameters and algorithms use them when ship does something. And they are ships genes. So after each say 15 second game is paused and you must give marks to ships. you like this one because of her spiky drawing algorithm and this because she walks in some wave like style. So then reproduction and mutation comes. Ones with bigger marks should have bigger chance of reproducing and smaller chance of mutation.

I think that's how i would do this :)

That's pretty much what it does atm except that the only movement parameter that can change is speed... the thinking algorithm decides what the shep will do next based on the ratio between sleepOdds/wanderOdds/...ect
I have not yet found out about bezier interpolation... i had a brief look into interpolation a while back and decided i would have more fun doing it intuitively :D The sheps basically decide where they would like to go... slowly turn to face that place, all the while travelling in the direction they are facing.
I shall think about a 'drawing' algorithm. I suppose it cant be that hard.

lol great...I could do this the whole day xD :+fav: but actually...I don't have the money to feed 100 sheeps (and to pay the people who have to shear all those sheeps) SOMONE PLEASE HELP ME - I'm ruining myself...but the sheeps are so cute
